Early Musical Experiences
I remember the first time I ever "heard" music. I do not remember how
old I was, just that I was small. We were listening to the car radio
and Simon & Garfunkle's "The Boxer" came on. I was mesmerized, and by
the end, I was in a trancelike state. (my parents were amazed that I
was actually silent for that long) That was when I started to pay
attention and really listen to music.
I could always be found singing anywhere and everywhere and in school
I was involved in all the choral and musical theater programs. I
left college at 19 to pursue music when I realized I could not work,
go to school and sing all at the same time. That summer I took a
trip to Europe with the resolve to start my singing career upon my
return. My very first musical contact was the limo driver/songwriter
who drove us home from the airport. And that was the beginning of
this very strange and wonderful trip I've been on.
Influences on My Musical Style
Ohmygod where do I begin? My earliest influence was Annie Haslam of
Renaissance. Others are; Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Billy Holiday,
Joni Mitchel, Joan Baez, Kate Bush, Susan Tedeschi, Alanis Morrisette,
Melissa Etheridge, Patti Griffin, Beth Hart, Joan Osborne, Sheryl Crow,
Jen Cohen (saw her at the Bitter End, NYC. She rocks), That’s all I can
remember right now, but I can honestly say that all music touches me
and influences me. OK except maybe rap.
Favorite Musical Artists
See above. Also; Yes, Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Ozzy, Genesis, Allman Brothers,
Peter Gabriel, Eagles, Elton John, Billy Joel, Aimee Mann, Annie Lenox,
Tori Amos, Live, Creed, Chris Cornell, Evanescence, Black Crows, Korn,
Linkin Park and Eva Cassidy. (Eclectic or schizophrenic? You decide.)
Musical Instruments/Equipment I Use
Tambourine, Shaker eggs and anything else I can get my hands on.
(Be nice, that’s not what I mean)
Previous Bands
Aura, The Bob Geiger Band, Harmonytryx (all women a cappella. They’re still
going strong, check them out), Woodghost, Work In Progress (My own blues/rock
band for two years), The Jordan Thomas Orchestra (Singing in front of a 16
piece band! What a rush!).
Musical Ambition
To sing! To be a part of a group of musicians who have talent,
energy, good hearts, focus, …. Hey wait a minute… it’s the Goats!
I’m done.
Recent Musical Accomplishment
Learning Eva Cassidy’s version of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”
and performing it with acoustic guitar accompaniment.
Favorite Goat Song/Reason
Satisfied. Great groove, fun to dance to.
Why I Became a Goat
Good vibe, good people, good music.
Miscellaneous Opinions
Balance is the key.
Live and let Live.
And ye harm none, do as you will.
Find peace within and the world will work itself out.
Smile.
